Introduction

Brunel is currently searching for a Project Engineer for direct hire with our mining services client.

What are you going to do 

This role will be based at site approximately one hour South of Tucson, AZ. The incumbent can reside within the U.S. and work at mine site on a 14 days on, 7 days off schedule. Transportation to and from Tucson provided along with living allowance.

As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of all engineering services required for the U.S. This includes a functional support role to the Canadian engineering group and US construction/operations team on Projects as assigned. Your role will ensure that engineering scope (drawings), specifications, bill of materials, quality control and general engineering coordination are available when required, in order to complete all aspects of the projects on time, to a high quality and within budget. You will be the gate keeper for change management and will be involved with changes derived from engineering and in-field scope, working alongside the project services team. You will oversee and aid in Survey of an Underground Decline environment. You will also assure required Procurements are being completing on time and within budget to facilitate mining and construction activities. Responsible for some reporting and other support functions as directed.

Duties:

  • Support the construction/ operational team for surface and underground work.
  • Oversight of the engineering design progression, coordination of the procurement of all items relating to scope, ensuring the items are on site when required and that the teams are aligned with any quality control required during the construction phase.
  • Manage, schedule and be ultimately responsible for timely and accurate survey of surface infrastructure and underground Mine Development.
  • Involvement is required throughout the construction package lifecycle, in a cradle to grave arrangement, review of drawings, through procurement and through final construction sign offs.
  • Recommending design or method improvements in a continuous effort to improve safety and productivity. This is complete via engineering interface meetings and in the reviewal of drawings.
  • Work with design engineers in the corporate office's, ensuring all construction drawings are received on time and reviews these drawings making any required changes.
  • Ensuring that adequate measures are put in place to remedy any defects or deficiencies in engineering design, fabrication or construction execution.
  • Maintaining at site a complete set of standards, specifications, and drawings to ensure designs and works are completed in line with industry and Project specific standards/ regulations.
  • Developing work packages to enable scope clarification and coordinating with procurement to support the tender-award process. Scope of work generation and compiling of procurement packages (drawings, specifications, etc).
  • Ensuring packages are managed in a way to ensure the completion of high-quality works, that meet the Project's budget and schedule. This includes vendor/ contractor interface management.
  • Providing schedule updates and ensuring packages are on time.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager / Project Superintendent to ensure all requirements to execute the work is available and supported in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate multi-discipline efforts for timely preparation, evaluation, and recommendation of sub-contract packages, including direct responsibility for preparation of Scope of Work and other Tender Schedules.
  • Oversight of change management and providing break downs of commercial financial changes, for approval by management.
  • Provide support in writing of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) and the coordination with operational/ construction team on safe and high-quality methodologies.
  • Provide support during construction/operations with technical issues and involvement of developing efficient and safe working procedures.
  • Provide support during quality and commissioning phases of the package.
  • Active role in safety management on site.
  • Provide input to weekly and monthly report (as required)
  • Undertake personal development activities on yearly basis.
  • Assist in the mentoring of junior team members.
  • Must be available to work overtime hours, as the project requires.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline (or similar/ relevant experience).
  • At least 5 years of experience working in industry in an Underground Mining Project Engineering (or similar)role.
  • MSHA CFR 30 Part 48 Underground experienced miner qualified.
  • Capable Underground Surveyor, with experience keeping Line and Grade established for continuous decline development in a conventional hard rock drill/blast/muck environment per design.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including client/ contractor management and interface.
  • Experience in schedule and budget oversight.
  • Demonstrated understanding of design engineering codes, technical standards and regulations
  • Experience in EPCM project environment.
  • Experience with Earned Value Reporting.
  • Ability to work closely with the design/site engineering team and interface with the Project Manager.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision; self-derived works and development.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to produce detailed reports covering inspection findings.
  • Capable of being approved as an employee possessor under ATF.
  • AutoCAD skills and experience transferring data to and from a Total Station.
  • Experience using planning software (Microsoft Project or Primavera P6).

Offer:

Position comes with a base salary plus an hourly site bonus for hours worked at site. Site hours are 14 days on at 12 hour days, 7 days off not working. Bonus pay is per hour work at site. Full benefits offered, plus 401K match, and PTO.

Air travel/milage reimbursement at federal rate from place of residence to Tucson, AZ. Travel provided from South Tucson to Project site provided throughout via bus. $1500/mo living allowance to cover accommodations.
