Introduction

  • Responsible for regular sampling & Analysis of ETP (Effluent Water Treatment Plant) plant samples from multiple Process area, storage tanks and process tanks (Holding ponds, Irrigation water tank, Off spec tanks, Equalization tanks, Coagulation and Flocculation tanks, Oil storage tanks…etc.
  • Responsible for ETP Laboratory housekeeping, sample preparation, standardization of chemical solutions / reagents, & assisting Sr. Technician for calibration of Laboratory equipment’s.
  • Special features/ challenges:
    • Normally air-conditioned laboratory environment. Exposed to fumes, grease, oil, noise and occasional intensive heat, plus prevailing climatic conditions for 30% of work time.
    • Light to moderate effort involving walking, standing, climbing when collecting samples / analysis, lifting from 5 – 10 kgs, pulling and pushing, and driving for the balance work time.
    • Assists Sr. Lab. Tech to provide the information related to sample points status and any other sampling /analysis issues.

What are you going to do 

  • Responsible for Sampling and analysis of samples from different ETP plant locations i.e.: Holding ponds, Irrigation water tank, Off spec tanks, Equalization tanks, Coagulation and Flocculation tanks, Oil storage tanks…etc.
  • Collecting samples using proper sampling techniques and observing safety procedures, wearing B.A. set if the situation demands it. Sampling of high-pressure and temperature samples should be done with the help of Plant Operator.
  • Should notify Sr. Lab. Technician if anything wrong with the existing sampling point so that it can be modified or rectified by operations.
  • Performing the consent to operate (CTO) analysis requirements for Ministry of Environment (related to water treatment) in Mesaieed Operations daily/weekly/quarterly schedule. Also, perform analysis whenever required by Operations.
  • Performing traces analysis as per standard methods (i.e. BTEX, Phenol, DIPA, TKN etc.,)
  • Performing ETP samples by using sophisticated instruments like GC-MS, IC-MS, spectrophotometer …etc.
  • Performing the chemical analysis related to the ETP treatment (i.e. Caustic, Acids, Coagulant).
  • Disposal of samples should be done using proper safety precautions, i.e. gloves, safety goggles, face shields and safety shoes
  • Ensure the laboratory generated waste to be a minimal level and to conduct waste analysis required for disposing incoordination Health & Safety Department
  • Knows all procedures involving preparation of standard reagents and solutions used in the tests – prepares them whenever necessary.
  • Notifies the Sr. Lab. Technician whenever reagents, chemicals, glassware spares in use are on the verge of getting exhausted.
  • Follows good housekeeping rules, sticking to safety precautions. Informs to Sr. Lab. Technician if there is any abnormality in results or with the instruments so that proper action can be taken, or the test can be repeated or rechecked.
  • Carries out the inventory of chemicals, glassware, GC spares, Dragger tubes etc. to ensure minimum quantities are available in lab.
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly statistical lab report.
  • Assists Sr. Lab. Technician for the Calibration of instruments and equipment. Checks equipment/Instruments cleanliness and conditions before carrying out any analysis.
  • To delegate his/her colleagues during leave /absence.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Completion of Secondary (12 years) education followed by 2 years full time formal training in chemistry. B.Sc. degree has an advantage to laboratory function.
  • Good knowledge of written & spoken English.
  • Minimum 5 years laboratory analytical experience in water treatment facility testing.
  • Fair spoken and written English.
  • Qatar - Holder of a Light Vehicle Driving License
