What are you going to do 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of laboratory and other working environments by monitoring, transporting, storing and/or keeping records on hazardous chemical, biological, or radiological materials; or monitoring fire safety equipment.
  • Implement environmental health and safety programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in implementation of emergency response programs.
  • Conduct weekly surveys of laboratory and waste areas where low level radioactive materials are used.
  • Conducts inspection, collection, storage and disposal of bio hazardous, chemical and radioactive waste. Maintains waste rooms in an orderly fashion.
  • Performs routine ergonomic assessments and makes recommendations.
  • Maintains industrial hygiene (ill) equipment and performs ill monitoring of laboratory and support personnel to assess potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Perform audits of labs, support areas and offices.
  • Assists in training of new hires regarding specific techniques in handling chemical, biological and radioactive hazards.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements

  • Fully bilingual (English and French) is a must.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health or related field.
  • 2-3 years of related work experience, with an understanding of environmental health principles.
  • Strong foundation in environmental health and safety.
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time in St. Laurent.
