We have an LNG client looking for a Control Room Operator to join their team in South Texas.

  • Workplace: On-site / In-office (no hybrid or remote schedule available)
  • Work Schedule: Work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Extended hours may be required during plant commissioning, startup, shutdown, or turnaround activities.
  • Work Type: Direct hire / Non-exempt

Job Summary

The Control Room Operator's primary responsibility is to ensure that Distributed Control System (DCS) operations within designated sections of the facility are conducted safely and efficiently, adhering to operational and integrity limits. The operator will monitor DCS parameters, anticipate deviations, and execute safe startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures. They will also collaborate with maintenance and other support groups to ensure facility reliability, availability, and utilization.

The Control Room Operator will interact with various stakeholders from different departments, including maintenance, engineering, health & safety, contractors, and vendors, requiring completion of leadership and safety-specific training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with operators in the field, guiding them on critical tasks and considering their feedback. Coordinate with other operators to ensure smooth control of the entire facility.
  • Ensure compliance with operational safety requirements and proactively monitor plant equipment to identify any changes in performance, communicating concerns to supervisors.
  • Conduct process and equipment adjustments to mitigate risks or optimize plant efficiency, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Follow plant startup and shutdown schedules while considering maintenance work, equipment availability, and overall safety. Create and review work orders as required.
  • Review all operating procedures and work instructions for accuracy and compliance, recommending changes where necessary. Collaborate with engineering and optimization teams to improve alarm management and plant operations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety assessments and operational processes to maintain the integrity, safety, and operability of systems.
  • Monitor plant operations through the DCS system to identify risks, equipment issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate operational activities with third parties related to power, feed gas, and product loading.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and support the Emergency Response Team.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot process and maintenance issues.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Qualified board operator for the liquefaction process at a large-scale facility.
  • 5+ years of production operations experience at a large-scale facility.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment and handle shifting deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Requirements

  • 2+ years of board operator experience at a large-scale facility utilizing specific liquefaction technology.
  • 5+ years of production operations experience at a large-scale facility utilizing similar technology.
  • Experience with control room operations during startup and commissioning at a large-scale facility.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed in both a control room environment and in the field, sometimes in challenging weather conditions.
  • Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to perform job functions.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, including traveling to designated emergency muster points.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly via radio, phone, and verbally.
