Introduction

We're seeking an Electrical Engineer III to work with a major Oil and Gas company on a 6-month contract basis with the possibility of extension.

What are you going to do 

  • Responsible for coordinating the design and execution of electrical infrastructure supporting company's Permian Asset. The role will include overseeing all electrical design work to support a large portfolio of projects, directing 3rd party engineering companies, interfacing with utility companies, vendors, and field construction.
  • Position will be required to work with managers, engineers, and construction personnel to prepare approval documents, support estimating, setup AFEs, review/approve invoices, prepare supplement documentation, monitor project costs and coordinate team reporting requirements.
  • Interface with Facility engineers to understand and scope electrical requirements for a portfolio of projects and upcoming development needs.
  • Work with 3rd party engineering companies to develop detailed engineering packages.
  • Interface with construction companies to provide scope clarity and answer technical queries.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously from inception though construction. Including project feasibility studies, project budgeting, project scheduling, construction coordination, and commissioning.
  • Be the main focal point and point of contact for interfacing with Utility Power companies, providing load forecasts, coordinating tie-ins, and communicating timelines/status with the team.
  • Specify, evaluate, and select, electrical engineered and specialty equipment for operations and major/complex projects.
  • Prepare technical bids and/or proposal evaluations and recommendations.
  • Evaluate, prepare and analyze designs of electrical systems including power substations, utility inter-ties, distribution, motor/facility control systems, lighting, UPS, grounding, alarm and emergency shutdown systems.
  • Review and/or negotiate utility contracts with outside vendors.
  • Provide technical assistance in the form of consultation, research, electrical system studies, National Electrical Code interpretations, recommendations, and utility contracts.
  • Prepare detailed short circuit, arc flash, voltage drop and fuse/relay/breaker coordination studies as needed to ensure facility reliability and personnel safety.
  • Ensure that company standards and strategies comply with the latest industry practices, safety, environmental and process safety management requirements.
  • Develop and maintain electrical engineering specifications and facility electrical area classification drawings.
  • Direct work and review outside engineering contractors' designs, studies, drawings, and material selections to ensure conformance with company specifications and standards.Investigate and resolve problems associated with new or existing facilities and their electrical design.
  • Prepare budgetary and AFE cost estimates in addition to technical scopes of work.
  • Monitor progress field work and projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion of multiple tasks at one time.
  • Contact utility companies and coordinate project completion dates to ensure power availability.
  • Development of construction drawings and RFQ packages through coordination with third party engineering firms, construction foreman & operations personnel.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university.
  • 10+ years related experience in Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Operational Knowledge of Oil and Gas facilities/equipment and their electrical requirements.
  • Experience with power system design, power distribution equipment, substations and protective relaying.
  • Experience with design and troubleshooting of electric motors and related equipment including motor starters, motor protection relay, and variable frequency drives.
  • Experience in electrical modeling program (SKM, ETAP, MilSoft etc.) for use to conduct power studies, short circuit calculation, coordination studies, arc flash calculation, and troubleshooting is required.
  • Basic understanding of preventative/predictive maintenance concepts and applications as it applies to electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge applicable codes, government regulations, standards, pertaining to electrical systems such as IEEE, NFPA, NEC, NESC and API.
  • Self-motivated and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with wide range of technical, analytical and managerial personnel.
  • Knowledge of contracts, proposals, bids, and budgeting concepts.
  • Experience in project management.
