What are you going to do 

Responsibilities

  • Produce cost-efficient designs of the company's commercial equipment and their related accessories with minimal supervision;
  • Be responsible for material and fastener selections, as required by designs, to ensure product reliability, safety and longevity;
  • Produce fabrication drawings of professional quality (sound integrity, free of errors) in accordance to current ASME Y14.5-2009 standard including GD&T practices;
  • Produce support documentation such as Bills Of Materials, Service Drawings, Electrical Schematics, etc.;
  • Execute part of the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process (ECO Form, design Investigation, CAD/Drawings, Epicor (ERP), etc.);
  • Contribute creatively to the company's design efforts and drawing practices.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements

  • Must have a post-secondary degree in a mechanical discipline;
  • Must have 10+ years commercial experience designing structural, load-bearing components using sheet-metal of #11 gauge thickness or thinner;
  • Must have 5+ years commercial experience drafting mechanical fabrication drawings, according to the current drafting standard ASME Y14.5-2009.
  • Must have 2+ years commercial experience performing Finite Element calculations on sheet metal components;
  • Must have a strong understanding of sheet metal fastener selection and joining practices;
  • Must have basic understanding of modern sheet-metal fabrication processes and their limitations;
  • Must have basic understanding of material properties and surface finishes for various metals including stainless steels, aluminum, galvanised and mild steel sheets;
  • Must have 3+ years experience with PTC Creo software in sheet metal design;
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power point;
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and have year round access to a vehicle for occasional visits to local suppliers;
  • Must have good English communication skills at the technical level to communicate with 99% anglophone suppliers located outside of Quebec on a regular basis;
  • Experience in development and manufacturing of physical prototypes in an asset;
