What are you going to do 

ROLE PURPOSE

The Instrument/Fire & Gas Technician conducts the mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and supervises the Discipline Technicians.

ROLE CONTRIBUTION

To successfully complete Mechanical Completion, Pre-commissioning, and Commissioning activities according to the project completion plan and schedule, the Instrument/Fire & Gas Lead Technician should:

  • Understand their roles and responsibilities and ensure compliance.
  • Comprehend the project completion execution plan from the Discipline Superintendent.
  • Familiarize with the Notification of Energization (NOE) Flow Chart.
  • Fully understand System Drawings and Walk Down procedures.
  • Complete a Daily Report to provide clear visibility to the Discipline Superintendent.
  • Attend the Daily Discipline Toolbox Talk to address any hazards and environmental impacts.
  • Prepare PTW, JSA (Job Safety Analysis), and TRA (Task Risk Assessment) as applicable in GEMS.
  • Perform Mechanical Completion Activities (‘A’ Scope ITRs) in close cooperation with the construction team, ensuring compliance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct Pre-commissioning Activities (‘B’ Scope ITRs) in line with vendor documentation and specifications.
  • Prepare and perform the Operation Test Procedure (OTP) under the supervision of the Discipline Superintendent.
  • Supervise Discipline Technicians to ensure they are familiar with project requirements and safety rules.
  • Demonstrate consistent Pre-Commissioning Progress.
  • Utilize specific tools and test equipment for system commissioning safely and with quality.
  • Assist field service vendors in conducting system commissioning.
  • Monitor vendor work scope and activities.

This role is essential for ensuring that instrumentation and control systems and equipment are in safe condition and meet safety and technical standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATION

Education:

  • Technical College diploma in Automation, Instrumentation & Control, or Electrical disciplines or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in construction or commissioning in Offshore products and systems. Experience with FPSO is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient with Completions Tools (ECOM) and documentation.
  • PTW and JSA.
  • Competency in Ex Qualification such as CompEx, IECEx COPC, or equivalent training and significant experience.
  • Valid Sea Survival OPITO certificate BOSIET/HUET is an advantage.

Discipline Skills:

  • Assisting the yard team with Instrumentation installation and performing Pre-Commissioning / Commissioning for Instruments on Topsides, Vessels, and various packages.
  • Knowledge of control systems including ICSS and PLC systems. Experience with Siemens PCS7 DCS and Siemens loop wiring is a strong advantage.
  • Proficient in fault-finding and repairing instrumentation/electronic systems and equipment in Control panels and in the field.
  • Skilled in installation, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting for all types of Field instrumentation including Temperature, Flow, Level, and Pressure Transmitters, Analyzers, and condition monitoring sensors for rotating equipment.
  • Experienced in Installation, Pre-commissioning, and Commissioning of Fire and Gas detection systems and its associated detectors and executive action means (Fire and Heat Detectors, open path flammable and toxic gas detectors, SDV, ESDV, BDV, etc).
  • Experienced in installation, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting for all types of valves, especially control valves (pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical) and various types of actuators and positioners.
  • Skilled in Instrumentation cold and hot loop Checking activity.
  • Proficient in interpreting all engineering documents including Instrumentation Datasheets, P&IDs, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Loop Drawings, etc.
  • Experience using test equipment including pressure calibrators, HART Communicators, Multimeters, etc.
  • Familiar with the concept of Commissioning Systems and representing the same using Limits of System Hanover Documents.
