What are you going to do 

As a Safety Advisor, you will be at the forefront of safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with legislation and fostering a proactive, high-performance safety culture. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Safety Leadership & Compliance - Provide expert safety advice to the workforce, ensuring all activities align with the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act, Regulations, and site policies.
  • Risk Management - Conduct detailed risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard identification to prevent incidents before they happen.
  • Incident Investigation & Reporting - Lead investigations into safety incidents, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Training & Coaching - Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and mentoring to employees and supervisors to enhance safety awareness.
  • Emergency Preparedness - Ensure the site is well-prepared for emergency situations, conducting drills and response training as needed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Work closely with supervisors, management, and frontline workers to reinforce a safety-first mindset and ensure policies are effectively implemented.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Experience - A strong background in a Safety Advisor, Safety Officer, or HSE role within an operational coal mining environment (open-cut experience preferred).
  • Technical Knowledge - A deep understanding of mining safety regulations, risk management principles, and incident investigation processes.
  • Qualifications - Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent). S123, G2, and ICAM qualifications are highly regarded.
  • Communication & Leadership - The ability to influence, coach, and engage with workers at all levels to drive a positive safety culture.
  • Problem-Solving Skills - A proactive mindset, capable of identifying risks and implementing practical solutions.

After successfully making through the phone interview, a face to face interview will be scheduled between the candidate and recruiter. This session can be a more in-depth  interview to review your communication and interpersonal skills.
