Introduction

We are seeking a skilled Piping Materials Engineer to support the development, management, and maintenance of corporate engineering piping material specifications and associated commodities within a Smart® Reference Data (SRD) system. This role involves ensuring technical accuracy, providing engineering support for projects and maintenance activities, and collaborating with various stakeholders to optimize piping material management.

What are you going to do 

  • Process and implement piping material requests, including developing material specifications and commodity descriptions.
  • Ensure the technical accuracy of modifications within the SRD system.
  • Develop valve specifications and verify piping material specifications for code compliance.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Information Management teams and service providers to maintain system integrity.
  • Support the Piping Material Request (PMR) process, resolving technical issues and prioritizing work.
  • Manage corporate piping material specification indexes by cross-referencing with legacy specifications, valve databases, and commodity catalogs.
  • Work closely with vendors to ensure all piping components meet specifications.
  • Liaise with EPC personnel, technical experts, procurement, operations, maintenance, and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and other disciplines across multiple sites.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status in Alberta or Ontario.
  • Experience in piping material specification development in Canada and the USA.
  • Proficiency in Hexagon (Intergraph) Smart Plant Reference Data (SRD).
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and provincial regulatory requirements.
  • Expertise in ASME, API, PIP, MSS-SP and other industry standards for piping materials.
  • Experience in valve design, selection, and developing valve specifications.
  • Familiarity with piping standard details and pipe supports.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.
  • Understanding of key interfacing processes, including:
    • Mechanical Static, Materials Engineering, and Integrity Management
    • SRD Management and Technical Procurement
    • Maintenance and capital project execution
  • Strong problem-solving skills, work ethic, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
