Introduction

As the Principal electrical engineer you'll play a pivotal role in delivering one of the first Australian offshore wind farms. You will oversee the design, procurement, and installation of critical electrical infrastructure, ensuring the smooth integration of the wind farm with the transmission grid.

What are you going to do 

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Lead the creation, implementation, and maintenance of a milestone plan for the electrical HV connection of the offshore wind farm to the Victorian transmission grid.
  • Collaborate with the Electrical Package Manager to set up and manage the budget for the design, construction, and installation of all electrical works.
  • Develop the technical Employer Requirements and assess and approve the electrical design and engineering for both onshore and offshore infrastructure.
  • Initiate and manage the Tender process for procurement of key electrical components for the wind farm.
  • Establish an accurate CAPEX and planning schedule for electrical infrastructure in preparation for Australia's first offshore wind auction.
  • Integrate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements into all project activities in accordance with relevant legislation, contract terms, and project plans.
  • Manage interfaces between electrical works, foundation, and Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) packages.
  • Oversee contract closures post-auction for the supply and installation of high voltage stations and HV transmission lines.
  • Ensure the timely, safe, and cost-efficient execution of the supply and installation contracts for substations and HV transmission works.
  • Identify, mitigate, and take ownership of any risks related to the electrical infrastructure.
  • Maintain strong relationships with EPCI contractors, stakeholders, AEMO, network service providers, and other key entities.
  • Oversee the entire grid connection process, from business development through engineering design, construction, and commissioning.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements:

  • Degree in electrical engineering, specializing in High Voltage Systems and grid connection processes
  • In-depth understanding of power systems, grids, and experience with renewable technology, especially wind farm connections.
  • Familiarity with National Engineering Register, Australian Energy Markets, and National Electricity requirements,
  • particularly for connection applications like AESCSF.
  • Proven experience in securing multi-disciplinary commercial contracts and managing complex technical and commercial issues.
  • A proactive, results-driven approach to project delivery.
