From orange outfits to impactful donations, Brunel Asia’s King's Day was a celebration like no other.

What happens when tradition meets purpose?

During last month's King's Day celebrations, our Asia regional offices were alive with Dutch-themed fun, all while generating donations to support a cause close to our hearts. This year’s celebration was particularly special. We blended joy and festivity with a meaningful cause, embodying our commitment to community and inclusivity.

Across our regional offices in Asia, we hosted a range of engaging activities, including lively flea markets, spirited auctions, Dutch quizzes, fun games, and local Dutch food delicacies. The highlight for many was undoubtedly the best-dressed competition, where creativity and enthusiasm shone brightly in a sea of orange.

King's Day and World Autism Awareness Day

King's Day, celebrated on April 27th, marks the birthday of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and is a day filled with festivities, community activities and a sea of orange. Coincidentally, April is also the month when World Autism Awareness Day, established by the United Nations to promote understanding and acceptance of people with autism, is celebrated on April 2nd. This overlap adds deeper significance to our celebrations at Brunel Asia, as we honour both Dutch heritage and our commitment to inclusivity and support for the autism community.

Through our King’s Day event, we raised a total of SGD 1,548.00 from the Singapore office’s flea market and RMB 7,624.00 from the China office’s Orange Auction. All proceeds from our Singapore office were donated to the Autism Resource Centre to support one of their core services E2C (Employability & Employment Centre), while funds raised from our Shanghai office were directed to support Dreams Coffee

Both charities are dedicated to supporting individuals with autism by providing essential tools, services, and training to help them transition successfully into the workplace.

Building a better future together

By infusing our King's Day celebrations with heartfelt inclusivity, we not only commemorate our Dutch heritage but also reaffirm our commitment to fostering a more inclusive society. These efforts resonate deeply with Brunel’s ESG strategy and the mission of the Brunel Foundation, established in 2012 to positively impact the labour market for individuals with autism. By supporting the Autism Resource Centre and Dreams Coffee, we are actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
