Introduction

As a Water & Environmental Technician, you'll lead regional compliance efforts around resource recovery treatment, biosolids disposal, and reuse.

Based in Bunbury your work will directly support the optimisation of wastewater treatment plants and ensure safe and sustainable management of wastewater products. This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical expertise with meaningful impact on public health and environmental safety.

About this role

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Lead the implementation of the Wastewater Quality Framework across the region, managing health, social, and environmental risks linked to wastewater treatment and resource recovery.
  • Develop and implement wastewater monitoring programs that enhance the quality and safety of treatment processes.
  • Monitor performance across regional wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), reviewing results for data integrity, identifying variances, and uncovering trends.
  • Investigate non-compliances, taking swift action and coordinating corrective measures to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Manage the Wastewater Quality Management System to ensure consistent compliance.
  • Play a key role in the annual environmental reporting process, contributing valuable data and insights.
  • Engage with stakeholders such as community groups and local governments, managing third-party reuse agreements and ensuring transparent communication on wastewater management.
  • Support Department of Health annual reporting for reuse schemes.
  • Provide expert guidance to identify and develop innovative opportunities for resource recovery.

Is this you?

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, engineering, natural resource management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in wastewater management and compliance, with a solid understanding of environmental impacts, biosolids disposal, and reuse.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, particularly in monitoring performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement and team collaboration.
  • A proactive mindset with a passion for environmental sustainability and resource recovery.
