Introduction

About this role

  • Design and review of protection systems.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications, and scopes. Liaise with external and internal teams, clients, and vendors.
  • Calculate and review specific protection and control settings, configurations, testing, and commissioning procedures across a variety of protection types.
  • Development of protection philosophy and practices.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders across departments, including design and energy project teams, to integrate protection requirements with overall project plans.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (bench testing) to confirm that all protection relays have been correctly configured to ensure safe operation and communication (61850 MMS and Goose) of all protection devices.
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting of protection systems and other applications as required.
  • Recommend and develop product and/or process changes to improve system performance or to better satisfy project or other stakeholder needs.
  • Review and analyse specified problems and issues to identify best practice solutions to meet project requirements.
  • Ability to undertake domestic or international travel for project requirements (including site travel)

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Australian Full working rights
  • Experience in mining or power industry required.
  • Experience completing calculations to determine protection settings including coordination and grading is highly regarded.
  • Ability to interpret protection system requirements and create functional design specification (FDS).Experience with Siemens Siprotec 5 or SEL protection relays is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce (IED) protection and control device settings and configuration files
  • Demonstrated ability to verify that protection settings are correctly implemented
  • Demonstrated ability in technical report and specification writing.
  • Good understanding of the balance between technical and commercial outcome
  • Strong knowledge and application of Australian Standards (Electrical)
