Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Senior Laboratory Technician to join a high-performing team supporting a tier-one global mining client in a battery testing environment. This 9-month contract role requires 38 hours per week (Monday - Friday) with flexible start times, allowing for work-life balance. Candidates must be based in Victoria and able to travel to Bundoora for work.

What are you going to do 

As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will be working in a small team, supporting multiple departments. Your primary focus will be sample preparation of battery materials, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and efficiency. The work is highly repetitive and requires strong attention to detail to produce polished samples within designated timeframes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work safely and in accordance with our client's procedures and guidelines
  • Conduct routine and project-based laboratory work in a battery environment
  • Perform materials synthesis and characterisation with precision
  • Fabricate and test battery half-coin cells
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and adhere to HSE standards
  • Handle small and delicate samples with accuracy
  • Maintain a clean and organised laboratory space to avoid contamination
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment
  • Assist in other laboratory areas as required during quieter periods

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • 2 to 3 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, preferably within an industrial setting, but academic experience is also considered
  • Bachelor of Science degree (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or similar) with honours or a Master's degree or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision
  • Ability to follow structured procedures and maintain consistency
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Current VIC Full Driver's Licence
  • Ability to provide a National Police Check (NPC) within 28 days of application
  • Full Australian Working Rights
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and zero harm
