Project Engineer - Chlor-Alkali Plant (Willing to Relocate to Phoenix)

Our Client specializes in producing essential chemicals such as bleach, caustic soda, and hydrochloric acid, primarily for water sanitation applications. With a strong commitment to safety, they focus on transforming chlorine products into safer end-products for various industries. As part of their expansion, they are constructing a greenfield chlor-alkali plant in Phoenix, Arizona, and are seeking a talented Project Engineer to join their team.

Job Description:

The Project Engineer will support the design, planning, and construction of the greenfield chlor-alkali plant in Phoenix. The role involves managing technical activities, coordinating with diverse engineering teams, integrating plant infrastructure with technology provider process units, and ensuring successful project execution. This position is based in Houston with occasional travel to Phoenix.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects.
  • Develop technical specifications, drawings, data sheets, and RFPs for project purchasing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including technology providers and internal teams, to address requirements.
  • Provide regular status reports to ensure adherence to the project timeline.
  • Ensure project activities comply with applicable codes, practices, policies, and performance standards.
  • Oversee integration of directly purchased installations into the plant design.
  • Offer technical support during permitting and construction phases, working closely with general contractors (GCs) and subcontractors.
  • Guide third-party designers in piping design, equipment layout, and 3D modeling to meet project requirements.
  • Conduct hands-on fieldwork, gathering information, and working directly with architectural, civil, and structural engineering teams.
  • Coordinate with vendors to address questions about weight, heights, and loads to ensure accurate specifications.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in project engineering, with on-site experience in chemical plants or greenfield chlor-alkali projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-disciplinary project management, including piping design, 3D modeling, equipment layout, and installation integration.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with process control, commissioning, and verification of engineering work.
  • Experience with greenfield operations and liaising with local authorities is a plus.

Preferred Traits:

A hands-on individual who can spend significant time in the field daily, gathering information, addressing design queries, and ensuring seamless collaboration between engineering teams and vendors.
