Introduction

What are you going to do 

  • Quality Assurance & Control - Develop and implement quality assurance processes to monitor drilling and completion activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.

  • Risk Management - Identify potential quality risks associated with drilling and completion operations and develop mitigation strategies to minimize safety, timeline, and cost impacts.

  • Inspection & Testing - Conduct inspections and testing of drilling equipment, materials, and processes to evaluate the integrity of casing, cementing, and completion systems.

  • Documentation & Reporting - Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, and compliance with regulatory requirements, generating reports to support continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Collaboration & Training - Work with drilling teams, service providers, and safety personnel to foster a culture of quality. Provide training on quality standards and procedures to enhance operational performance.

  • Continuous Improvement - Analyze quality data, identify trends, and recommend process enhancements to optimize drilling operations while reducing costs and improving safety.

  • Performance Monitoring - Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for drill pipe and bottom hole assembly (BHA) performance in the Permian/Delaware Basin.

  • Field Surveillance - Conduct rig site surveillance of drill pipe and BHA handling best practices.

  • Service Quality Oversight - Lead non-destructive examination (NDE) assessments on inspection, machine shop, and hardbanding service contractors.

  • Quality Planning - Assist in developing the UOG UNCON quality plan and associated work processes for rig contractors and rental pipe suppliers.

  • Failure Investigations - Investigate drill pipe and BHA failures, including twist-offs, and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting - Develop a drill pipe and BHA management dashboard to track performance trends.

Reporting & Relationships:

  • Reports to Quality Assurance & Improvement Lead and/or Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager.

  • Collaborates with Operations Superintendents, Drilling & Completions Engineer Manager, Continuous Improvement Team, Wells Delivery Operations Superintendents, Wells Delivery Drilling Engineering, and Wells Enablement Quality Team.

  • Works closely with service partners and contractors, facilitating monthly NDT service partner calls.

  • Support quality control efforts during execution of services.

  • Work independently while updating Operations and Quality Leads on progress.

  • Split responsibilities between office and field environments.

  • Assist drilling and procurement teams in ensuring fit-for-risk application of goods and services.

  • Leverage data from WellView to inform fit-for-risk decision-making.

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE):

  • Ensure all activities comply with company SHE policies, industry regulations, and API & DS-1 standards.

  • Support the development of ExxonMobil employees, contractors, and the overall quality plan.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 8 years in drilling/oilfield inspection, manufacturing, or quality/procurement.

    • At least 2 years in a role requiring minimal supervision.

    • 5+ years in quality assurance/control for drilling and completions goods/services.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of quality assurance practices.

    • Familiarity with industry standards (API, ISO 9000, ASME, NACE, etc.).

    • General understanding of drilling engineering and operations.

    • Experience in material selection, failure analysis, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
