On January 29th, the Brunel Foundation presented Tech Playgrounds with a donation of € 10.000,- as part of the end-of-year donation from Brunel’s clients and employees in the Netherlands. With this donation, we support one special project: Precious Plastic.

We handed over the cheque at the kick-off meeting at Tech Playgrounds Headquarters in Eindhoven in presence of Brunel specialists sharing their expertise and Tech Playground volunteers.

Precious Plastic was founded in 2013 by Dave Hakkens in the Netherlands for his graduation project at the Dutch Design Academy. It is a global community of hundreds of people working towards a solution to plastic pollution and creating awareness in society for reducing the use of plastic. The Precious Plastic community is all about transforming plastic waste into valuable products by creating small recycling stations everywhere in the world.

All knowledge, tools and techniques are shared open source, in this way the community believes to have the greatest impact on recycling. The recycle stations are made with basic tools and materials that should be easily available around the world.

We believe this can have the greatest impact on recycling. We try to make it as easy as possible for people to start, removing barriers

By enabling the construction of a recycle station at Tech Playgrounds in Eindhoven, the Brunel Foundation and Tech Playgrounds strive to create awareness for the plastic waste problem and how plastic waste can be transformed into a sustainable object.

Tech Playground coaches (with distance to the labour market) and “tech” oriented (neurodiverse) teenagers frequenting Tech Playgrounds will work on the recycle station. Enthusiastic Brunel colleagues are also invited to join.

The project combines Brunel Foundation’s two focal points People and Planet and underlines our mission: to help create a better future for professionals and a better planet for future professionals.
