Introduction

Brunel is working with an integrated energy company who are seeking a senior development manager to join their technical team to support the growth of their renewable assets. This role will be key in identifying strategic new connections as well as performing technical due diligence on exsisting assets or assets in development to bring into the portfolio.

This role requires strong technical undertsanding of the NEM and connections to provide detailed scope of works to consultancies for connections studies as well as keep them accountable for deliverables. Strong strategic mindset and stakeholder managment is required for this role and the right person will lead negotiations and provide technical support accross development projects.

About this role

  • Develop and implement strategies for renewable energy projects.
  • Conduct multicriteria preliminary desktop assessments and full due diligence assessments of new potential transmission connections or project acquisitions.
  • Define and develop scopes for complex technical studies and manage specialist consultants.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with AEMO, TNSPs, DNSPs, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Lead assessments of grid connections and strategic reviews for the NEM.
  • Manage all transmission elements of identifying, screening, and assessing greenfield opportunities.
  • Serve as the in-house Subject Matter Expert on National Electricity Rules and future grid connection options.
  • Work closely with the Origin Regulatory Team to stay updated on regulatory changes.
  • Select, manage, and oversee key specialist consultants for feasibility studies, Marginal Loss Factor assessments, Short Circuit Ratios, and Constraint analysis.
  • Coordinate and influence regulatory stakeholders to benefit Origin's projects.
  • Identify and manage technical risks during project implementation.
  • Provide detailed analysis and recommendations on connection opportunities within the current and future grid.
  • Select specialty consultants for complex grid modeling tasks.
  • Provide technical solutions to support commercial planning for strategic energy projects.
  • Make decisions on screening and assessing opportunities, whether consultant-derived or internally developed.
  • Determine strategic and tactical approaches for interactions with AEMO, TNSPs, and state agencies.
  • Conduct detailed technical and commercial analysis of connections and recommend the best value options.

Requirements

  • Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Engineering degree with 10 years of relevant experience in the Australian market.
  • Extensive technical renewable energy development experience in the National Energy Market.
  • Significant experience in connecting new assets to the National Energy Market.
  • Knowledge of due diligence activities related to connections and future grid options.
  • Capability in managing new connection processes from a technical level.
  • In-depth understanding of the AEMO Integrated System Plan and related documentation.
  • Willingness to travel when required.
  • Detailed knowledge of National Electricity Market regulations and future grid design.
  • Highly developed communication skills, including influencing and negotiation.
