Operations Wellsite Geologist III
Vacancy Number: TR-243858
We're seeking an Operations Geologist to work with a major Oil and Gas company on a contract basis with the possibility of extension.
* The ROC Operations Geologist is tasked with real-time monitoring of company's global drilling operations. This role requires proficiency in integrated pressure prediction, shallow hazard identification, and the integration and quality control of real-time data to interpret and communicate pressure trends. A strong understanding of LWD/Wireline tools, drilling, and mudlogging parameters is essential.* Effective well surveillance hinges on excellent communication with various stakeholders, including the Business Unit (Geoscience, Reservoir Engineers), WSG/Ops Geo, Petrophysics, other ROC team members, and Wells Engineers throughout the well's execution phases. Therefore, the ROC Operations Geologist must be an adept communicator, integrator, and highly organized, capable of adapting strategies as conditions change.
* The role involves evaluating multiple scenarios, ensuring close communication among all parties, and managing expectations to achieve a safe, timely, and cost-effective completion of the drilling well while meeting all geological and operational objectives. Additionally, the ROC Operations Geologist will lead knowledge management efforts, collecting and sharing lessons learned, compiling necessary deliverables for the End of Well Report (EOWR), and tracking key performance metrics. The expected rotation for this position is 2-4 weeks, working 12-hour shifts
Safety Leadership: Uphold company's safety culture by ensuring no spills and maintaining the "Nobody Gets Hurt" principle, both in the office and, if required, on the rig site.* Pressure Surveillance: Monitor pressure trends for multiple wells across various affiliates, interpret these trends, and communicate findings to all relevant parties.
* Quality Assurance/Quality Control: Oversee rig-based deliverables and monitor data feeds (ML, WL, LWD, WSG) to ensure accuracy and reliability.* Knowledge Management: Capture lessons learned for future operational improvements. Maintain and steward operations geology database and prepare End of Well Reports (EOWR).
* Wellsite Assistance: Assist in wellsite-based activities as needed, including the selection of casing seats, wireline logging, and formation testing programs.* Program Review and Analysis: Review and analyze geologic evaluation programs and service company performance on a well-by-well or monthly/quarterly basis to identify areas for improvement.
* Daily Reporting: Prepare and distribute daily geological reports summarizing drilling progress, geological findings, and any issues encountered
* BS/MS in Geology from a recognized institution.* Proven experience as an Operations Geologist.
* Drilling Experience: Onshore and offshore (barge, jackup, MODU) drilling experience.* Offshore Drilling: Experience with offshore platform/deviated well drilling and associated technologies (e.g., LWD, WL).* Formation Pressure and Fluid Sampling: Proficiency with pressure and fluid sampling LWD/WL tools, selecting pressure locations, and monitoring pressure/fluid sampling data in real time to ensure efficient collection of high-quality samples.
* Mud Logging: Experience with mud logging, cuttings description, real-time image logs, and correlating them to determine lithology and well path.* Wireline Logging: Experience with wireline logging tools, techniques, real-time data quality assurance.
* Formation Evaluation: Basic interpretation skills for identifying rock type, fluid type, borehole conditions, etc.* Managed Pressure Drilling: Familiarity with managed pressure drilling (MPD) practices and the impact of those practices on well surveillance.
* Production Drilling: Experience in production drilling environments, addressing challenges such as depleted reservoir, wellbore stability, and fluid type uncertainty.* Directional Drilling: Knowledge of directional drilling, well planning, depth control measurements, and understanding of Bottom Hole Assemblies (BHAs).
